There’s No Point in Fearing an Acupuncture Needle

The TDP lamp is a far-infrared heating device whose emissions are said to accelerate the body’s own natural healing processes. Created in 1978 by Chinese inventor Mr. Gou Wenbin, the TDP lamp has been used for over three decades to successfully treat numerous medical conditions including: muscle pain, arthritis, soft tissue injuries, back pain, joint pain, migraine headaches, bursitis, sciatica, surgical recovery, and more.

The TDP lamp operates by heating a special metal plate coated with 33 trace elements known to be biologically necessary to huma

For someone who has never experienced acupuncture before, it is possible to have certain misconceptions about the process or results. Many people who have grown up with western medicine have little understanding of this eastern medical tradition that started in China hundreds of years ago. For these people, it can be common to fear an acupuncture needle, especially if their only comparison is the standard syringe they’ve doubtlessly been pricked with since childhood.

Allow us to take a few minutes and answer some of the common questions surrounding the ancient art of acupuncture. We can help you learn more about this holistic healing technique, as well as what to expect from your own visit to the acupuncturist.

Does it hurt?

This always seems to be the first question people ask of acupuncture. The short answer is, no it should not be painful. The typical acupuncture needle is much smaller than the hypodermic needles found in doctor’s offices and hospitals. In fact, an acupuncture needle is so much smaller; you could fit several of them into the hollow opening of a hypodermic needle. While the needles an acupuncturist uses do vary in size, on average they are only about the width of a human hair. This makes their insertion and removal almost unnoticeable. In some cases you may feel a small prick or pinch and in other cases feel nothing at all.

Are medications being used?

This question is another hold over from western medicine. People are used to having needles filled with some sort of vaccination or medication, and as a result, they associate needles with injections. In acupuncture the needles do not contain any type of vaccine or medication. The acupuncture needles are just surgical steel needles that have been sterilized and packed individually. The acupuncturist may swab the skin with alcohol before inserting a needle, but this is simply to clean the skin’s surface and prevent possible infection.

How many needles will an acupuncturist use?

The answer to this question really depends on the individual acupuncturist and the treatment being sought. Different treatments require different quantities, and these amounts may vary from acupuncturist to acupuncturist. For simple treatments, as few as 3 or 4 acupuncture needles may be used. For more advanced treatments the number can go beyond twenty.

We hope these answers will allow you to feel more comfortable about the acupuncture process. We know once you experience relief at the healing hands of a certified acupuncturist you will never again fear the acupuncture needle.

  • I received my second large order from you guys and am so pleased, again. I have to admit I have had hesitations in ordering from you because your prices are so reasonable- but no more. Your service, prices and products are wonderful. I was worried about the herbs being GPM compliant or poor quality- but it says "GMP Compliant" right on the bottle. I've looked into all the ingredients and am pleased to find the risky herbs are left out and after 3 days of taking the herbs- I know they are working.
